October Club Meeting Piping, Tooting and Quacking by Carolyn Holmes

  • 28 Oct 2026
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Hanson Club House

Step inside the hive to uncover one of nature’s most fascinating acoustic battles. Honeybee "piping" is a dramatic, hidden dialogue of sounds from newly emerged virgin queens and rival queens still trapped inside their cells.  Join Carolyn as she explains this unique phenomenon and what it means to the colony and to us as beekeepers.

Carolyn Holmes’ beekeeping journey started in 2014 when she installed her first package of bees on the family farm in Bradford, Vermont.  She found these wonderful creatures fascinating.

From there, she happened upon "Wetlands Apiary", where she was given the opportunity to be a part of a Queen Rearing effort. There they conduct research, study and teach various techniques at workshops, as well as give presentations to a variety of audiences.

She received her Master Beekeeper Certification from Cornell University in 2025, is a member of Norfolk, Worcester County and Vermont Beekeepers Associations, and the Newsletter editor and "Correspondence Secretary" for the Massachusetts Beekeepers Association.
